Born Sebastien Sabatier-Curial in 1972 in Nimes, Saba grew up in a small town in the south of France where art was not
part of everyday life. It wasnt until the age of 16 that Saba discovered dance. After suffering a severe accident
when he was 14, a doctor suggested Saba take dance lessons to regain his balance, so he registered for an aerobics
class. Feeling that his body was responding very well to this new treatment, Saba later enrolled in a jazz class at a
dance school.
At age 21, immediately after graduating from university as a horticulture expert, Saba auditioned for the Rosella
Hightower Dance School in Cannes. At the same time, he studied voice at the Conservatory of Music, acting at ERAC, and
directed and sang in a cabaret. Rosella Hightower and her daughter, Monet Robier, took Saba into their company as an
addition to the modern productions. While on tour in Europe, Saba was spotted by the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble and
offered a scholarship to study in New York City.
In August 1996, Saba joined the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and six months later became a member of the
Martha Graham Dance Ensemble, remaining until May 2000. He was also a dancer and rehearsal assistant with the Pearl
Lang Dance Theater from January 1997 through September 2001. In addition, Saba has performed with the Sophie Maslow
Dance Theater, Richard Move, Nice Opera, and Dominique Deroo Dance Theater.
Currently on the faculty of the Peridance Center, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and American Dance and
Drama Studio, Saba also studies yoga at Bikram Yoga Chelsea. He is thankful for the support of all his teachers who
inspired him to bring the art of dance and theater to so many individuals by teaching and performing.
